Privacy and cookies

What this site records about your visit, why, for how long, and how to change your choice.

This site belongs to the Developmental Services Workforce Initiative (DSWI). It exists to explain the DSW apprenticeship. To learn whether it is doing that job, it measures how it is used. This page says exactly what that means.

What is recorded

For every page you open, the site records the page address, the language, the time of day, the page you came from if your browser tells us, your screen size class, your device type (phone, tablet or desktop), how long the page was on screen, and how far down you scrolled. It also records when you click a link that leaves the site, download a document, open a college's page, use the registration checklist or readiness guide, or switch language.

Your internet address is used for two things at the moment your visit is received: to work out the region and city you are visiting from, and to make a visitor key. It is then discarded. It is never written to the site's records.

The two cookies

Cookie What it does How long it lasts
dsw_consent Remembers whether you accepted or declined, so the banner does not show again. 180 days
dsw_vid A random number that lets the site tell a returning visitor from a new one. Set only if you accept. 365 days

If you decline, you are still counted, but only for the day: your visitor key is a scrambled combination of your address and browser that changes every day and cannot be joined back together. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, the site treats that as declining, whatever you chose.

Who sees it

Only the DSWI and the people who maintain the site for it. Nothing is sent to any advertising, analytics or social media company. The site does not load anything from third parties except its two typefaces from Google Fonts, which do not receive cookies.

Interested partners may receive a weekly or monthly summary by email: totals, top pages, top regions and referrers. Summaries never contain individual visits.

How long it is kept

Individual visit records are deleted after 13 months. Daily totals, which contain no visitor keys, are kept.
